Harsha Bhogle, a prominent cricket commentator, expressed his astonishment at the batting-friendly pitches in the ongoing eighth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

According to Bhogle’s tweet, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has caught cricket fans off guard by providing flat pitches this season, rather than the usual surfaces that support fast bowlers.

Previously, pitches in the PSL were known to support the bowlers, but this season has seen a shift in favor of batters, allowing them to score big.

In the recent match between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars, a total of 442 runs were scored in both innings at the Gaddafi Stadium.

While the match was high-scoring, it also saw an exceptional bowling performance from Shaheen Shah Afridi, who amazed the cricket fraternity with his pace and swing.

Afridi took five wickets for 40 runs, becoming the only bowler in PSL history to record two five-wicket hauls.

In the upcoming 16th match of the PSL, defending champions will face Islamabad United at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

The ongoing tournament is full of excitement and surprises, and fans can look forward to more thrilling matches in the days to come.

Former New Zealand cricketer, Simon Doull, has voiced his concerns about Babar Azam’s decision to allow Mohammad Haris to face the first delivery of Shaheen Afridi in a match between Peshawar Zalmi and Lahore Qalandars.

Zalmi was chasing a mammoth target of 242 runs in their fifth game, and Babar Azam entrusted the young and inexperienced batter to face Shaheen Afridi’s fiery spell.

The left-arm pacer, known for taking wickets in his first over, bowled a perfect swinging yorker on the second ball, clean-bowling the wicket-keeper batter.

Doull, who was commentating at the time, expressed his confusion about the decision, stating that he did not understand the logic behind giving the strike to an inexperienced batter.

He added that these things are usually discussed between the openers before they come to the crease.

Shaheen Afridi’s devastating spell continued as he clean-bowled Babar Azam, the Zalmi captain, in his second over, restricting the team to 201 runs.

Afridi ended his four-over spell with five wickets for 40 runs, becoming the only bowler to achieve two five-wicket hauls in PSL history.

Karachi Kings, one of the teams competing in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL), received a significant setback as their star player James Vince will be unavailable for the next few matches.

The English cricketer played his last game for Kings against Multan Sultans last Sunday before departing to join the national squad for the T20I and ODI series against Bangladesh.

The 31-year-old batsman was brought in by Kings for the Karachi leg of the tournament, which concluded with a clash against Multan Sultans. Vince has now been named as the opening batter for the upcoming T20I and ODI matches against Bangladesh, with the first ODI scheduled to begin tomorrow.

Expressing their support for Vince, the franchise conveyed its well wishes on its official Twitter account, saying, “Wishing good luck to James Vince as he heads off to join the England team for their international assignment. You’ll be missed on the pitch but we know you’ll do us proud. All the best Vincey.”

Vince had scored an impressive 174 runs with a strike rate of 175.75 in the five PSL matches played this season. The right-handed opener will now be replaced by Adam Rossington, who currently represents the Northampton shire County Cricket Club and will join the Kings’ squad in Rawalpindi today.

The German Cricket Board (DCB) has announced that Atiq-uz-Zaman, a former Pakistani test cricketer, will be the head coach of the German national cricket team for the 2024 T20 World Cup qualifiers.

The DCB expressed their excitement about his appointment and said that Atiq’s involvement in top cricket as a coach and player will be a significant asset to their players and coaching staff.

The DCB also noted that Atiq’s participation would concentrate on strategic planning, implementation, and development initiative management as part of the elite high-performance process.

Although Atiq has only played for Pakistan in three ODIs and one Test, he has been working as a coach and is currently working towards his Level 4 certificate.

Furthermore, he serves as a batting scout for England’s men’s national teams and the England Lions. The former batter and wicket-keeper has also held positions such as Head of Fielding and Wicket-keeping Coach at the Lahore High-Performance Centre of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The German national cricket team is currently preparing for Scotland’s ICC World Cup Qualifiers this summer, and the DCB believes that Atiq’s appointment will aid the team in securing a spot in the T20 World Championship in 2024.

Iga Swiatek, the world number one in tennis, has called for the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to reduce gender wage disparities at non-grand slam tournaments.

Despite men and women receiving equal prize money at grand slam events, the WTA tour frequently offers lower cash prizes than the men’s tour.

Swiatek is advocating for the WTA to enhance the appeal of tournaments for athletes, sponsors, organizers, and fans.

She believes that women’s tennis can elicit the same emotions as men’s tennis and that there is something unique about the women’s game that sets it apart.

The third-ranked player in the world, Jessica Pegula, has also voiced support for equal prize money and more television coverage for women’s tournaments.

Pegula pointed to the united cup mixed team competition as an example of how men and women can play on the same court and on the same team.

Swiatek and Pegula are both members of the WTA player council, which has the authority to lobby for changes within the organization.

Pakistan’s Women’s team captain, Bismah Maroof, has been ruled out of the Group B match against England in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Maroof sustained niggle in the groin during her innings against West Indies last Sunday. The vice-captain, Nida Dar, will lead the side in today’s match at the Newlands, which will begin at 6:00 PM.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) medical panel has advised Ayesha Naseem to take four to six weeks of rest, who pulled her hamstring in the match against Ireland on 15 February.

With the absence of the two players, Pakistan’s chances of winning the game have become more challenging. However, they will look to finish their World Cup campaign on a high note.

It is important to note that Pakistan has already been eliminated from the tournament, with England and India having secured their places in the semi-finals from Group B.

Despite not making it to the next round, Pakistan’s performance in the tournament has been promising, and the team will be hoping to build on it in future competitions.

Mohammad Rizwan, the captain of Multan Sultans, scored his first-ever PSL century in a match against Karachi Kings at Multan Cricket Stadium.

The Sultans batted first and Rizwan set the tone for a high-scoring game by attacking the Kings’ bowlers.

In the 19th over of the game, Rizwan brought up his century, hitting 3 sixes and 10 fours. He batted at a strike rate of 166, scoring 103 runs off just 62 balls. This was a historic moment for the star batter as it was his first century in PSL history.

Rizwan’s incredible innings helped Multan Sultans build a solid base for the game and thrilled the crowd at the stadium.

Karachi Kings are yet to bat, but Multan Sultans have already established their dominance in the game, thanks to Rizwan’s magnificent century.

Overall, it was an impressive performance by the captain, who led by example and proved his worth as a top-class batsman.
