The German Cricket Board (DCB) has announced that Atiq-uz-Zaman, a former Pakistani test cricketer, will be the head coach of the German national cricket team for the 2024 T20 World Cup qualifiers.
The DCB expressed their excitement about his appointment and said that Atiq’s involvement in top cricket as a coach and player will be a significant asset to their players and coaching staff.
The DCB also noted that Atiq’s participation would concentrate on strategic planning, implementation, and development initiative management as part of the elite high-performance process.
Although Atiq has only played for Pakistan in three ODIs and one Test, he has been working as a coach and is currently working towards his Level 4 certificate.
Furthermore, he serves as a batting scout for England’s men’s national teams and the England Lions. The former batter and wicket-keeper has also held positions such as Head of Fielding and Wicket-keeping Coach at the Lahore High-Performance Centre of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
The German national cricket team is currently preparing for Scotland’s ICC World Cup Qualifiers this summer, and the DCB believes that Atiq’s appointment will aid the team in securing a spot in the T20 World Championship in 2024.
