After the Dubai Tennis Championships, Indian tennis prodigy Sania Mirza, 36, will
conclude her professional career, which she began more than 20 years ago.
In a recent interview with the Women’s Tennis Association, one of the finest women’s
tennis players stated that she will retire next month.
Sania, who has been battling with a calf problem, said that her decision to not push her
body was mostly influenced by her age. She said that her priorities had changed and
that she just doesn’t have the ability in her head to emotionally push that much
anymore.”
In her final appearance in a Grand Slam competition, she will play in the women’s
doubles at the Australian Open this month with partner Anna Danilina. The talented
athlete had originally intended to retire after the conclusion of the 2022 campaign, but
an elbow injury prevented him from doing so.
Sania started concentrating on her studies in the UAE, where she has lived since being
married to former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, after hanging up her boots after two
decades of playing professional tennis.
The 36-year-old, who has won six Grand Slam doubles titles, elevated South Asian
women’s sports to new heights. She made history by being the first Indian woman to win
a singles championship in the Women’s Tennis Association.
