Chelsea has spent more than £500 million ($603 million) on new players, but their first season under new ownership is set to end without any trophies to show for it unless they win the Champions League.

They will play against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday.

Currently, Chelsea has been knocked out of both domestic cups and is in 10th place in the Premier League.

Winning the Champions League for the third time could be their best chance to qualify for the next season since they are 10 points away from the top four.

Graham Potter, Chelsea’s manager, has a challenging task ahead of him with an injured team and an array of new players. Chelsea can only add three new players to their Champions League squad out of eight new signings.

In addition, the team is struggling to score goals, having scored just three in their last seven games. However, the recent signings of Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, and Enzo Fernandez for 100 million euros each may be able to assist with Chelsea’s lack of firepower.

Potter understands that the fan base may be losing patience, but he is committed to producing positive results in the short and medium term. The team needs to win against Dortmund with humility, respect, and an aim to succeed. If they do not, the American owners of Chelsea may look for a new manager to deliver results.
